Nick Oberthaler (b. 1981 Bad Ischl, Austria) lives and works in Vienna, Austria. His paintings are equally visual and theoretical. They unveil conceptual frameworks of color, surface and form and revel in refer-ences to color theory, art history, comedy and the visual world. His expanding vocabulary of texture, medium and form questions received ideas concerning modernism’s purported purity of thought and the separation of art from everyday life. Recent solo shows of Oberthaler include Thaddaeus Ropac, Pa-ris; MAUVE, Vienna; House DD, Deurle, Sint-Martens-Latem; L'Our Bar, Clermont-Ferrand and Musée d'art Contemporain de la Haute-Vienne, Rochechouart. He studied at Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna and École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Geneva (2004).
