Thomas Sauter (b.1984, Chur, Switzerland) lives and works in Zurich. His paintings question the legacy of gesture and form, viewing the picture plane as a skin on which an image thinly sits unsettled. Not restrained to canvases, his paintings float in air, cover walls and objects and reveal an interest in the digi-tal and its impossible ability to project the flat with depth. Deeply involved with a painterly process the works relish in a paradoxical desire to energize outward from their supports. He has been included in numerous institutional shows such as FriArt Kunsthalle, Fribourg; Kunsthalle Zurich and Haus Kon-struktiv, Zurich. He received his BFA (2008) and MFA (2013) from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste ZHdK in Zurich.
